La Ribera / El Born
The old city of Barcelona
Nobohome offers a wide range of Barcelona Old Town luxury real estate for sale with main focus on the area El Born. The old town or Ciutat Vella is believed by many to be the heart of Barcelona, is primarily made up of four neighbourhoods – El Born, El Gòtico, El Raval and Barceloneta – all of which are full of old world character and charm and are linked by narrow, winding streets where you easily get lost.
‘The Shore’ is one of the areas of the quarter of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera of Ciutat Vella (“the old city”) of Barcelona in Spain. Many of the buildings date from late Medieval times. It was a well-to-do quarter during 13th–15th centuries, when it really was by the sea shore, and the area that today is named Barceloneta was still an island. Notable buildings are the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar and the palaces along Carrer de Montcada, including the Museu Picasso, the Museu Barbier-Mueller and part of the Textile Museum. Part of the quarter of La Ribera was demolished after the War of the Spanish Succession to build a military citadel to punish the defeated city. The lower section of the La Ribera district, just below Carrer de la Princesa, and leading to Barceloneta is referred to as El Born after the 19th century market on carrer del Comerç that dominates the area. El Born is the quarter of Cuitat Vella to the right of Via Laietana, stretching from Passeig de Colom up to Plaça Urquinaona. The top of El Born can also be referred to as Sant Pere. Home to the Picasso museum, the newly renovated market of Santa Caterina with the arty roof, the gothic Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral, and a wealth of bars and upmarket boutiques along Passeig del Born, El Born has become one of the most popular downtown places to be. Nobohome is trying to always to offer a great selection of boutique apartments for sale in the old town in Barcelona.
